About

There are two things you should know about me: I love to teach and I love to write, but I don't always love to write about teaching...

Okay, maybe there is a little more you should know.  My name is Alyssa, but my students call me SeƱora Friesen (Yes, like I'm freezin' cold). I'm 24 living in the heart of Oklahoma. If you aren't very familiar with it, its because its what you'd call a fly over state. However, its home and I love it here.

My high school sweetheart and I have been married for six years. I talk about my dog like she's a child. Her name is Annie and she's a 6 year old yorkie. I'm an only child and grandchild.

I'm a Christian. My life purpose is to bring the light of Christ to others.

Which brings me back to my first statement, I love to teach. Teaching is how I bring light to this world. I teach high school Spanish at Edmond Santa Fe. My students are my "kids". I cherish every moment I spend with them, which is a lot of moments. I practically live at the school and my husband joins me there whenever he can. We have found our home with the Wolf Pack.

Being a teacher in Oklahoma comes with its fair share of challenges, but boy is it the most rewarding job in the world!

I haven't always lived in the "big city" though. I'm originally from a small town in Western Oklahoma. I graduated with 11 people. I got my Bachelors in Spanish and Master of Education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Its the place that made me who I am, but it was time for me to move away and find myself.

Okay so where is this going? What is this blog about? Well I don't know about you, but most days I'm on the struggle bus. I'm a millennial working on figuring out this whole adulting thing. I'm learning who I am and what I have to offer this world. I don't like to journey alone, so I'm offering you the chance to journey with me. Jump on this struggle bus and find a seat, we've got a long way to go!

 (We are the light)
