Beyond Curriculum: A week dedicated to philanthropy

While teaching at Edmond Santa Fe, I have had a lot of wonderful experiences. However, the most exciting thing I've ever experienced is Double Wolf Dare Week. It is MAGIC!
What is this magical thing? Well Double Wolf Dare Week, better known as DWDW, is Edmond Santa Fe's annual philanthropy week. Student Council leads the week, but the entire school gets involved! Each year tons of charities apply to be the recipient of the big gift. Last year we raised over $204,000 for Cavett Kids! The kids pick a new theme every year and do all sorts of things to raise money. Leading up to DWDW there are food nights that local restaurants sponsor, formal dances, basketball tournaments, and so much more.

However, there is nothing like the actual week of DWDW. Every day we have a dress-up day to go along with the years theme.

A great time to show off your attire is during the assembly for the day. The assemblies are the best! There is blacklight, Mr. DWDW, teacher talent show (maybe my least favorite for obvious reasons haha), Boy Bands, and more.

Each night features a new assortment of fun activities to get involved. Lunch dares get crazy! Today someone licked peanut butter off the bottom of one of my kiddos foot, ew!

Here is what DWDW looked like this year.

When: February 25 - March 1 (but actually extended to March 5 b/c of snow days)
Charity: The Anna's House Foundation which helps DHS foster families!
Goal: $150,000
Theme: Shipwrecked
Slogan: "Sea" the Change

The fun then rolls over into the classroom. I take DWDW seriously. We raise as much money as possible in my classroom! Last year we raised $1300 which beat our $1000 goal. This year we raised that goal to $1500, but due to snow day craziness we ended up raising $1317 so at least we bit last year by a little bit.

The BEST part thought, is when the final assembly comes and we see how much money we have come together to raise!

Can you believe this total?! We definitely saw the change!

If you know me, you know I believe it is SO important to teach our kids more than just curriculum. I want to teach them how to be good humans. So when I experienced DWDW for the first year, I knew Santa Fe was my home. I have never witnessed something so beautiful as kids giving and working for a common goal that will help so many people. I cry every year as I see the good being done. I'm grateful I work for a school district that believes what our kids do for our community is just as important as how they perform in the classroom.

If you are reading this and your heart is touched, which I hope it is, please reach out to me and I will tell you how to get involved in the craziness and love and generosity to come next year! Good job Santa Fe, you ALL made a difference!

Here are some more pics from DWDW over the years!
